Prologue

The small wolf pup scrambled clumsily up the large boulder, eager to join his litter mates which were perched on top, discussing about who was to be in for hide and seek.

"Hey, look who's here, it's the runt!" his oldest brother snickered, and his other siblings soon started laughing as well.
"Um, can I please join your game?" he asked quietly, "I won't be of any trouble, I promise..."
"Oh, of course!" his brother smirked, and whispered something to the others, causing them to snigger and nod in agreement, their eyes filled with distaste as they scanned him over.

He was shocked that they let him play, and thought that they were finally starting to accept him.
Little did he know that this was the first, and only time he would ever play with them.

"I will be in," his brother said, and turned around to start counting.

"Follow me!" one of his sisters gestured for the tiny figure to follow, "I know a great hiding place!"
He sprinted after her, his paws pounding with adrenaline.

After a while, he realized where they were heading to: the cliff.

"Isn't it dangerous to go near the cliff? I think we should hide somewhere else..." his face scrunched up with exhaustion as his short legs struggled to keep up with his sister's long ones.

Finally, his sister started slowing down, and halted a few meters from the edge of the cliff.
"So, we're hiding here?" he asked, collapsing on the ground and panting.
"Yes." his sister smirked, as all his other siblings walked out of the bushes and sat down near her.

"Wha-? What's happening!" he stood up on his paws and tried to move forwards, away from the cliff, but his oldest brother stepped in front of him, "Let me go, please! What are you doing?"
"We, are going to get rid of you. Once and for all. We are tired of having to put up with your embarrassing size, as our parents are. You are nothing but a filthy little runt. You are nothing. Nothing to anyone. No one would notice if you disappear. No one even knows of you, do you realize that?" his brother pushed him over and towered above him, "So today, you are going to die. You should be thanking us for doing this to save you from further embarrassment!"

"No!" he leapt up and scratched his brother's nose with his claws.
"You! You little-" his brother dodged another strike, "You should stop right now unless you want to-"
He bit into his brothers forepaw, as his brother howled with pain and raked his sharp claws hard over the right side of his face, and shoved him back.

He stumbled back, clutching his wounded face and gasped as he felt the rocks trembling under his paws, then giving away.
"Help!" he cried as he hung onto the edge of the cliff for his life. Below, the tumbling black water crashed against huge sharp rocks. He glanced up and saw the looks of triumph on his siblings' face, before he slipped and fell down, down to the deathly waves of the sea.
